ProCredit Bank is celebrating 10 years of banking in Romania

Bucharest, 06/26/2012

This year, ProCredit Bank is celebrating 10 years of banking in Romania. The history of ProCredit Bank in our country began with Microenterprise Credit Romania, a non-banking financial institution focused on the financing of very small businesses. In 2002, MCR becomes a bank and starts its operations under the name of Miro Bank. Internationally recognized shareholders – the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, DEG, Commerzbank, IFC, ProCredit Holding, FMO – join in the 2003 the effort of supporting small business development in Romania, and the end of 2004 brings the bank a new name and a new look - ProCredit Bank - part of an international group of banks operating on three continents, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Africa.

The quality of the banking services, the innovations over time (the first chip card with Visa in Romania in 2005), the personalized approach to customers (whether SMEs or customers working in agriculture or private individuals) and facilities designed to foster access to financing and savings have led to the building of a stable portfolio of clients. In 2011, Fitch reconfirmed the rating of BB+ with stable long-term perspective for ProCredit Bank, which translates into an above-average quality of the bank’s asset due to its focus on the financing of production rather than consumption and thanks to the diversified loans.

„Be it financial or banking services, the role of financial institutions in the economies in which they operate should be to foster development and drive growth. We are proud that, while the past years have been full of challenges, we were able to learn valuable lessons, and many of our customers are with us since the beginning. Our concern was to maintain long-term development and not encourage excessive consumption and indebtedness. Our customers' trust was earned in time, and we are glad that we still have it.” Ilinca Rosetti, General Manager ProCredit Bank

ProCredit Bank carries on its mission of development for small and medium-sized businesses in Romania, seeking to create new facilities to meet customers’ real needs and market changes. Personalised advice to customers, knowledge and understanding of businesses remain the core principles in the bank's operations.

“We are glad that in the 10 years of operation on the banking market in Romania, with the help of a dedicated team and with the support of our shareholders, we managed to build a balanced, stable and profitable institution. Our portfolio of loans is growing, and the results obtained by mid year make us optimistic about our future evolution.” Ilinca Rosetti, General Manager ProCredit Bank
